Sightseeing on the run. Baroque charm and natural beauty—follow your feet as far as they’ll take you. Highlights include the historic Old Town with the Brühl's Terrace, the Semper Opera House, and other famous baroque buildings, as well as the vibrant Neustadt district, known for its pubs and Gründerzeit architecture. Over 300 musicians and numerous bands along the course will keep your spirits high. The flat and fast course continues through the illuminated Waldschlößchen Tunnel, over the bridge of the same name, and into the Großer Garten (Great Garden). From there, you’ll head back toward the city center and its many landmarks.
The second half of the marathon, which offers a distinctly different experience from the first, includes a loop through the Blasewitz district. Enjoy stunning views of the castles along the Loschwitz hillside and the grand industrialist mansions on Goetheallee. You’ll then run along the Elbe River back into the Old Town, directly beneath the Brühl’s Terrace, past the Semper Opera House, and through the marathon gate of the Heinz-Steyer Stadium. With cheering spectators and half a lap on the track, you’ll cross the grand marathon finish line.
